Rigging- Cleaning up
Day 06
VFX JOURNAL- LEARNING HOW TO RIG
9/11/20242 min read
Before starting on weight painting the mesh, I focused on tidying the controls and adding control to the eyes. As usual, I followed Academy Phoenix's tutorial.
I will explain my progress in two parts-
1. Tidying up
2. Aim control- eye
1. Tidying up
- Bind the skin to the rig. Only bind the body and clothes for this stage.
- Make sure the eye, hair, teeth, and anything attached to the head to follow the movement of the head. You can do this by parenting those to the joint on the top of the head.
- Organize the outliner by grouping each component. I organized it by type and function- for example, I organized the geometries within the same group. I also sorted them in each layer, so the controls and geometry could be hidden individually.
2. Aim control- eye
- Make sure each eye is separated, and the pivot is placed in the center.
- Create a controller for the eye- two circles for each eye, and a bigger one surrounding those two to control both eyes. Parent the two smaller circles onto the bigger one.
- Go to 'Constrain' -> 'Aim'. Select the options window and check 'Maintain Offset'.
- Click the eyeball, then the individual controller. The eye will follow wherever the controller goes.
